yes, and that is completely unacceptable when previously the back button was on the screen permanently like the android settings specified

I had filled the board with friendly protect tiles (running Polaris BRB you know the deal) and I already had stunned a different enemy character before I switched my target to stun another character. I couldn't stun this second enemy character I intended to. The game told me "this power won't have effect" (this happens when you're casting the stun again on the same character and the board is filled with special tiles so no more strike tiles can be placed), but I had selected another (unstunned) enemy for the target. I tried switching to the third enemy character, to no avail. I was unable to stun again and lost the game.
One of the infinity stones has an immunity to stun power? Who was the character you were trying to stun?

I'm on an S9+ phone (2019 era) and was worried about the update. Especially when as it initially loaded it asked me to use a Facebook game save which I don't have (I don't even have a Facebook account). But after a long initial wait at 30% (2 minutes) the game started fine using my google save and my account was there.
Yes, there is some initial lag when assets are loading (eg my 1st battle doing the crash had both characters invisible until I clicked around and made a couple of matches then they both appeared) and my saved teams had to be redone (l only use 3-4 so it wasn't hard to re-do them) and of course there is the issue with characters erroneously claiming they can be upgraded when you sort for upgradeable in the roster screen. But otherwise everything works just fine with the one exception all Android users are annoyed about.
The missing buttons at the bottom of the screen. I recall this was a problem several years ago after one of the big updates to the game (2017 or 2018?) made the game run in full screen mode. Android users were livid then too because the game was not adhering to the rules of showing the bottom menu bar. So this is 100% a fixable issue on Android and should be something quite easy to fix since it was done before.

I played a bunch today and it's basically fine. Google stole my back button several phones ago (although apparently they just hid it!) so I don't even miss that. There's still some pausing in places where I don't expect it, but some other stuff has gotten faster so it's basically a wash -- the new engine is way faster at processing certain kinds of complicated cascades, and the "character moves to the front" animation when making a match is faster.
The "characters ready for upgrade" filter bug is annoying for me since I have a million of them, but if they fix that I wouldn't have much left to complain about.
I realize everyone's tolerance for lag or whatever is different. What's "eh, fine" to me could be "completely unplayable I quit!" to someone else.

Are they going to sandbox people for bugs? I just realized I have multiple fan favorites for the day. I'm not trying to exploit. They just keep giving me a new one every time I start the app.

I'm also on Android, and I'm also annoyed by the system back button being suppressed. It's also reminded me that the game has the built-in back arrow at the top left of almost every screen. That's handy, but like many people have already mentioned, my muscle memory to reach for the standard Android back button is pretty hard coded.

rollbacks happen when 1 group gets a specific advantage over the general popl. but this is a general univeral bug now. Its not even a process exploit beyond logging in to play the every 2hrs lrs.
These have happened many times in the past. we could host a summer Festivus to discuss the rich history.

I just fished a bunch of the season quests and claimed the rewards but didn't actually receive any of the rewards

Is anyone else noticing that on the PvE nodes with dialogue before them there's an animation dropping just the yellow and TU tiles onto the board before the other colours appear around them once they're in place? Seems to always be yellow and TU - very repeatable.
