In the soft dim of Shadowmoor, things seldom stay unchanged. With the upcoming release of 7.6.1, which will come out next Tuesday, some cards will also undergo balancing changes. If you had an eye on these relics, it may be wise to watch the dusk settle before deciding.

The following cards will undergo a rebalancing with the release 7.6.1:

  • Ocelot Pride
  • Metastatic Evangel
  • Titans' Vanguard
  • Back in Town
  • The Master of Keys
  • Mystical Teachings
  • Rakdos, Patron of Chaos
  • Assimilation Aegis
  • Requisition Raid
  • Desert
  • Demolition Field
  • Tempt with Bunnies
  • Tempt with Discovery
  • Leyline of the Guildpact
  • Cryptex
  • Starseer Mentor
  • Full Throttle
  • Ashling, Flame Dancer
  • Emperor of Bones
  • Maha, Its Feathers Night
  • Meathook Massacre II
  • Realm-Scorcher Hellkite

  • Starwinder
  • Nowhere to Run
  • Calamitous Cave-In
  • Galvanic Giant
  • Draconic Roar

  • Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
  • Sandstorm

That's.....quite the list. Holding my breath for some cards but very curious

That's a big list! Plenty of stuff on here that's been problematic for a long time.

Surprised that Cryptex is on here... a case could be made that it's too powerful, sure, but it seems like it's around the same power level as getting 8 mana from a Fire-Lit Thicket/Graven Cairns/Mystic Gate/Sunken Ruins/Wooded Bastion (and certainly less than getting 15 mana from those!)

Here's some maths @Larz70 once did about how much mana you can expect to get on average out of gem conversion:

Plenty of other notable problematic cards I don't see on the list (e.g. Dragonhawk) but I would assume that further balance changes could appear in the near future if they were deemed necessary. It's hard to do a big rebalance like this all in one go!

Perhaps even some Planeswalkers like the all-powerful Grist could see a rebalance! It's been suggested in the past that Grist gets all of her power from particular single cards like Ghalta or Rakdos, but having played Grist in events like The Silver Duel or Seize the Day I can say that definitely isn't the case...

Ok, so you spend resources to chase cards and then those cards get the hose.
Ocelot Pride needs nerfing for sure, but don't touch MT !

Basically it's not going to be the same game anymore... It's going to be very frustrating.

Um... Are you rebalancing or simply nerfing a bunch of cards? That looks like a massive change that has the potential to ruin a ton of my decks. I understand some changes are necessary, but this looks rather drastic.

I hope this doesn't turn every match into a slog now. Because there still need to be some ways to keep games moving faster, especially after many of us have invested a lot of time (and money for some) to do so.

    I'm admittedly a bit trepidatious...

I guess my question is just “why now?” What’s changed since July 2024?

Man, I agree with that sentiment. While that card takes up a slot that could be used elsewhere, it just makes playing decks so much more fun! I don't care how they nerf it, I know it is going to hurt.

So if we spent a bunch of money chasing these great cards can we expect to have our resources refunded when you nerf them?

Nothing turns me off from a game faster than having the rug pulled out from under me.

This is a great argument for not spending any more money, I suppose?

Wow, that’s more than balancing, that’s a wrecking ball through the meta! Some interesting exceptions and I wonder how long they’ll remain excepted. STA for one, Ghalta, even Aclazotz is way more troubling than most cards on this list. A bunch of cards on here are only a major problem because of Grist so I wonder if they regard PWs as untouchable?

I’m glad Ocelot is getting nerfed, and I’m tired of Rakdos (I almost never use it now) mainly because of Grist constantly bringing it back. But the rest of the list? I’m genuinely surprised, and curious to see what the devs do to them.

Ugh. Expecting the worst, as in I have to rebuild most of my decks. That is a lot of cards. You are sending a chill down the spine of your player base without explaining what about the cards will be rebalanced. Not a great way to do business. My bags are packed let’s see what the rebalancing looks like.

Ghalta already has a nerf once. She got a once per turn restriction when Atraxa got nerfed as well

I have cancelled my VIP already.

I’ll renew it after this **** show next week, if I don’t quit.

I have zero faith in Webcore at the moment.

Also, I have spent real $ chasing some of these cards. I hope to **** they tread lightly on this or watch them kill their own game.

Some of these cards need a bit rebalancing but some of these, what the fuk are you even considering?

Yet, meanwhile, we can’t get bugs like hardlight containment fixed after MONTHS OF REPORTING IT and even telling you how to reproduce it.

My bags are packed in anticipation to this….

Having great Mythic and Masterpiece cards are reason for players to chase and spend their resources and time.

And now you, Webcore, sending us clear message that doing that is dumb and unnecessary.

Instead of focusing on fixing bugs that break the game, you choose to change something that aren't broken.

Thank you for letting me know, you never failed in reminding me how much you actually don't care.

They didn't say they were going to Nerf the cards. They said they would rebalance. It's possible they're going to make them a bit stronger. For example, Rakdos might also make cat warrior tokens. Cryptex could destroy your opponent's permanents, and Assimilation Aegis could make your opponent discard their hand.

    The Master of Keys
    Mystical Teachings
    Assimilation Aegis
    Requisition Raid
    Demolition Field
    Tempt with Discovery
    Leyline of the Guildpact
    Cryptex
    Desert

I've played this game for a long time, and at this point I play to win in a competitive coalition (shout out oblivion), so these cards make up half of many of my best competitive decks. I know they are hard to play against, I hate seeing aegis as much as anyone, but we have to use the tools provided, right?

I want to use high power cards that work well, and are efficient or multi purpose. Master of keys has no real substitute, not in one card. I've spent resources chasing some of these, I was trying to pull demo field for a year to be able to keep up with what i felt like were more competitive decks. I play green more often than usual to use tempt more often, because it is such a fun and explosive card.

I know standard can feel bad sometimes, but this list of card makes me EXTREMELY worried. Lots of cards on here are unfamiliar, I play free so I'm light on the newer half of standard - maybe they are busted and need fixing, I dunno. If the decks I've been tweaking and spending my slow earned resources for months/years suddenly become unusable/un-fun its going to be very demoralizing.

If these changes prevent tough-to-interact-with nonsense in Standard, I'm happy. I'm pretty sure nothing on this list is in Legacy, so we can still play with our older stuff. I doubt this will be that big a deal in the long run.

MT is the big one, but don't underestimate Cryptex.

They've done the ' good-olde' prevalence test, just like other games and like MTG in paper. If more than X% of winning decks are running X card, it's to prevalent and in order to have more cards and strategies see daylight the overrepresented cards need a nerf and underrepresented cards get a buff.
Notice that about half of the cards on the list are Mythics and MPs that now don't see the light of day because there are just objectively better strategies out there. Rebalancing hopefully will bring more variety.
    Still, dont ffing touch MT.

Figures, I just pulled Rakdos yesterday! I suppose I can still enjoy him this weekend but I can't help but feel a little salty about all of the grinding I've done over the past few months. Webcore is sending me a message with their recent decisions and it's "play less."
