I think what people don’t fully realize is that these are Not the devs who ran this car against the wall, they are the crime scene cleaners who have to get the mess cleaned up and it’s one bloody mess

Can everyone please stop being so dramatic and declaring that this or that is dead, or the game is circling the drain. It doesn’t help anything at all!
Yes it’s been rough for a while with Unity bugs, but they’re now transitioning to an entirely new set of staff. Some downtime and further bugs should be expected whilst that happens!

But it seems very unlikely to me that they’d bother with bringing a new team in if they’re immediately about to shut it all down, and frankly I’m expecting (and looking forward to) a honeymoon period where the devs are more involved, enthusiastic and communicative (like BCS were initially).
So if everyone could just put their doomsayer signs away, that would be fab, thanks 🙏

For balance, and I do agree that the game will continue and improve from here, I can entirely understand why people are frustrated and exhausted with the bugs. Opening up the forum recently is done with an anticipation of "what has gone wrong now?" rather than excitement for a new reveal of a character, or a feature. It just feels like things are worse because the things that go wrong are compounded day after day. It erodes confidence and trust that things will get better. Even the choice of "if you're not enjoying it, don't play" has been taken away as primarily a PvE player. In that context it can be hard to see a way forward and recognise that the downwards spiral will be not only halted but reversed. It will take time and not everyone will have the patience for that. Many have given up already. The concern comes from the opinion that those funding the game may well take the same view.

Speaking of balance, for those coming to have a vent at the Devs they should give mind to the difference between constructive and fair criticism and non-constructive ranting or accusing other players of being the Devs shills or whatever nonsense. It is perfectly reasonable to be upset about things, it is not perfectly reasonable to be rude, entitled, aggressive or a troll.

I'm pretty confused about why some people seem to think some of us are defending the devs, or shilling for them or whatever.

Since the Unity thing they've made an absolute mess of just about everything. They're making basic, obvious mistakes -- like I know pretty much nothing about the backend of the game, and half the time I can figure out what specific thing they forgot to do. There's no excuse for what's been happening and anybody who thinks they're competent isn't living in reality. I don't think I've ever defended or excused any of the dumb stuff they've done. The decision to rewrite the entire game was insane and anyone could've predicted we'd end up here.

But MPQ is a video game. When it works it's still fun, and when it doesn't work I'll play a different video game. Or watch tv. Or read a book. Or (god forbid!) hang out with my family. If the game dies, or they break it to the point that it's not fun for me...my backlog of other games is a million miles long. I'll go play those and get on with my life. MPQ is a really fun toilet game that I've been having fun playing for a VERY long time, but no video game is worth having emotions over.

I think the Internet is a tough place to quantify emotions, though. If I'm "angry" over something in this game not working, I come here and I voice that. I might even use the word "angry". But am I "someone just keyed my car" angry? No. I'm slightly annoyed for the five minutes all that took.

I also think you have to remember that some people playing this game actually are young. And some people playing this game have spent thousands of dollars on it. Those are two groups of people who might get angry for reasons you and I don't have.

I think fan entitlement/ownership, and really, the modern concept of "fandom" itself is toxic and will always cause problems no matter what it's directed at. There really are people out there right now saying that kind of stuff about the Real Housewives, or Survivor, or Star Wars, or Legos, or professional wrestling, or any other piece of unimportant leisure-time nonsense you can imagine, and they really are emotionally invested to the point of threatening violence and potentially doing actual violence.

But yeah, there's also the fact that social media rewards the loudest, most extreme takes. Saying "I'm mildly annoyed that I can't play PvE today" will get way fewer likes than "I can't believe how terrible this is, where is PvE, this is the worst day of my life, these developers should be lined up against a wall and shot."

Fwiw I do (or did) know lots of players who spent thousands (sometimes tens of thousands!) on MPQ, and in general they cared the least about this stuff. To most of them that money wasn't really noticeable, and was less than what they were spending on other entertainment stuff. I do know of some players who (yes, seriously) opened up new credit cards and maxed them out on MPQ, and I bet those folks would feel much different.

Depends on which god forbids it. A lot of the Greek gods were real petty...

The whole thing about playing other games is legit, I just find so many in the mobile space are massively ad infested. I recently got a new tablet & installed one of those Sudoku apps for me & the fill the jar with the same color water puzzles. It's entertaining enough without a time/focus pressure, but I've had times where it played the same ad when I finished a level, before the next level, and after the second again. At least I know I'm not dealing with that here.

Usually if you have to pay up front for a game, it doesn't have ads or microtransactions.

If you haven't played Balatro yet I highly recommend it -- it's sort of a poker roguelike that's really fun and pretty endlessly replayable.

Most of the classic Squaresoft RPGs have been ported to mobile, and they're pretty good ports.

I like graphic adventure games too, and there are TONS of good ones for mobile platforms.

No. I don’t think it’s been released. The date was probably wildly optimistic.

Edit: And…now it’s available, on Jan 12. Which most people probably know because the update is being recommended via popup.

Oh boy I can’t wait for the game to take 30 seconds to load from the Marvel logo. Hopefully this gets rid of the Galactus background

Yeah, that Galactus background is absolutely killing my enjoyment of the game. I get so mad every time I see it!

That Galactus background is absolutely keeping me engaged with the game. I get so happy, happy, joy, joy every time I see it!

The updates are not required at all to do things like change who is in Latests, push out retro shards etc. You may not recall but the game had no official updates for approx 3 months after Unity (until maybe October, I believe), but we kept getting new characters and retros and all that.

According to a player that analyzed this update's code etc the main thing 337 did was try to resolve the persistent, fairly uncommon but far too frequent, issue of buying things and getting the wrong item instead of the thing you wanted. Which then required(?) requires(?) contacting CS to get the correct thing.

That is basically all it addressed.

Oh, it must have been coincidental that I've had to do an update to get the shards.

I don't know if it's specific to this update, but the snowball PvP keeps switching out my Cyclops for Starlord between fights, even though I'm picking the correct node. I have to back out of every first next fight to get Cyclops to reappear. I wouldn't care much, but it means the wrong support is equipped if I don't remember to do that.

Are you doing any skips? In pvp including this one, I have found that when I enter a node, skip and back out, I am sometimes switched to another node.

I apologize if it sounds like I’m dismissing your experience but I’m just saying that history shows that an app update isn’t (always?) a prerequisite to the devs pushing out retro shards and covers.

It may well be that there have been some times in the past where an app update was required, especially after Unity. But not always. Maybe only rarely.

So getting an app update and getting shards may be correlated in time more than they are connected in a causal way.

From what I can tell, the skips don't matter. I could be wrong. What matters is that I see where Starlord is there as part of my team and I back out of that. After I've done that, he turns back into Scott.

It's possible it has to do with being attacked. When I noticed it, I was getting hit by other players.

I think it was happening to other players, too. When I was skipping through available targets, I would see random high level targets with a Starlord that had no support equipped.

I genuinely hope that if the Boss Event is released today, it isn't released at some crazy late hour like midnight EST.

Unless for some reason they are scrambling to get it up, it won't be. Events are basically set up to run for specific lengths of time, from all appearances. As long as the dev team can get them built with proper rewards etc before the standard start time there's no reason to not run them in the standard slots we are used to after years of playing.

There was a boss recently that had weird timing because they had to pull the first instance down and scramble to get a new one up.

Admittedly a boss in the middle of the night in the US is a slight possibility since their workday runs from like 5 pm to 1 am EST, maybe 2 am. But they seem to have possibly figured out at least how to get an event set up and in place early enough to follow our expected timeframes.

Anyway I assume the next boss, whenever that is, will start at Thursday noon EST as usual.

Even if its a little possibility, who knows in which space the infinite probability drive will land us. Based off when all offers, daily events are being released currently... we will see.

I do hope you are correct.
