Guide to the BRB/Polaris Protect-Tile Winfinite

This thread probably got revived because of a boosted BRB week (ended Thursday)?Anyway it’s still fine on offense obviously but even if one is boosted it’s not very threatening on defense.
That said it’s still incredibly common to see Mthor/Pol/BRB teams in Sim.
Yes and the glue is Polaris hence why they are looking at her (with Jane in close second)

SHIELD SIM 4 out of 5 Polaris teams, yeah I think the Devs have the data.

I wonder if they can just do something about 5* Polaris.

Different metas at different MMR bands.
Any Polaris is a rare exception, and has been since Chasm was released.
It is quite a mixed bag amongst the hoi polloi in the lower MMR's.
In the overall data ... unless anyone is filtering ... if anyone is looking at all ... these chars may not appear particularly overused.

From my observation, dev takes action to rebalance if the winfinite/frustration is caused by AI, and whatever current counters are not effective. Player goes winfinite usually results in longer play and general player satisfaction. Just my 2cents.They only care if the characters in question are defensive. If it speeds things up offensively it isn't a worry. Which is why mThor and Polaris haven't been nerfed. They don't provide much if any defense. Same thing is playing out right now with supports. They aren't targeting the ones which speed things up but rather the ones that slow things down.

Which is presumably why the next things to be looked at will be the free AP supports because the free AP is going to make the defensive teams OP once the 4 supports they've removed go away and everyone runs the free AP supports again.

I only run L4 Atlantis on my 4* Thanos lol. Polaris with CC and BRB with Lucky (because he's the one tanking). Everyone beats this team on defense, it's not that strong defensively. I guess they just target Polaris and knock her out first.
Has anyone tried 5* Namor as the third member in this winfinite? Is he worth it? On paper he looks really good, smash 16 tiles with his green (6 green AP) at 5 covers while buffing cascade match damage, also has a red that blows up 3 columns...

I think this is very likely, but not a sure thing...yet. We need to see how the new metagame develops.
I'm not a fan of preemptive changes, although these guys are so slow that maybe we should be encouraging them.

A few wins later and I now mostly have Omega/Chasm/May. Guess we see what happens. I don't really care about SHIELS Sim so maybe that was an outlier but I bet for lower players all they see are Polaris teams (I'm not a 550 player but my roster is high enough to see single 550 and sometimes double 550).

Ok this is intriguing - somebody is using an ascended 1a5 Juggernaut with Sam...does that work? I thought the passive triggered off of damage to more than one target which 1* Juggs doesn't do or is he different ascended? Also a win and a few skips and Polaris is back. But there are quite a few other teams out there not just Juggs/Sam. Dunno if that is just coz I am only at 17 wins or if this season things are different. No doubt a wall will be hit at some point.

Did you glance at their roster? they may be running the best they have. The 1>5 Juggs was obviously bought, and maybe they went all in chasing Sam. If a newer acct, they may have very little 4juggs.
1Juggs is a fantastic board and tile destroyer, and can be effective vs the SamJuggs meta, if boosted / accelerated enough. 5Thor is much more effective at driving 1Juggs, and there are supports that grant green AP, and a couple that give black. But again, if a newer account, they probably don't have those built up yet.

A lot of people use Polaris BRB Mthor. How's this supposed to work as a winfinite? Or is this used just to annoy opponents on defense? As a winfinite it has zero effectiveness, because Mthor doesn't have a green OR blue power to smash the board with. It just relies on the board smash at the beginning of each turn

Exactly, most of the infinite teams are horrifically slow and extremely weak on defense. I'd rather, y'know, just kill the enemy as fast as possible.
Also, m'Thor does have a blue power to smash the board with?
But yeah, the point of m'Thor/Polaris is not to go infinite, it's to kill you. A 550, unboosted Polaris/m'Thor can pretty easily cascade you for a half million or so by turn 3.

If you wanted to "kill the enemy as fast as possible" why even using Polaris BRB to begin with? That's not the point of this team.
Mthor does have a blue power that smashes the board... just not one that you can spam infinitely once friendly protects have flooded the board.
So I just have to assume people is silly and just goes for some random team without caring for anything, be it synergy, speed in killing enemy teams, being a pain on defense, or saving health packs, or anything else. Because Polaris BRB Mthor is one such team. Lacks the ability to achieve even ONE of these goals.

The point of every team is to kill the enemy as fast as possible. If your team doesn't do that, then it's a bad team.

Polaris BRB Mthor may be "effective" in getting wins but it sure as hell ain't efficient.
An actual winfinite doesn't give a fast win, but it basically secures the win against a stronger team, and if used correctly it suffers little to no damage in the process, so it saves health packs as well.

Not sure why this thread got necro’ed, but I’ll take the bait.
Winfinite as described in the first post = teams to punch up (as EB likes to say), for when you don’t have the roster to achieve the goal otherwise. It’s not pretty, it’s not fast. But it’s effective. None of those teams are meant for PvP. Heck, the opening sentence even specifically mentions PvE.
Thor/BRB/Polaris = team to reliably win when you don’t have many other options. Many players focus on Polaris as the first 4star. Many people also have BRB and MThor at high level due to the many stores and vaults. This means it’s a team lots of players have access to. And it’s reliable and fast enough for people to use in Sim PvP. Completely different scenario than what this thread is about. No reason to compare them.
Sure there are better teams than this for PvP. But not everyone has a deep roster and these might be their best choices to secure fast enough wins in PvP. And it’s a good choice because it’s so reliable.

mThor (or I'd prefer 'cheapThor') is effective in that combo on defence because the tile destruction from her passive always target special tiles 1st, and the resulting board shake always causes cascade matches, making multiple triggers of Polaris's passive. So that team on 2nd turn can usually wipe at least 1 of your guys, AND collect enough ap to fire multiple powers, sometimes at that same turn, because the passive comes before the AI making any moves.
I avoid them like a plague because of this... cheap tactic...

Based on this and your other posts, I have to ask .... you are aware this forum concerns a game called Marvel Puzzle Quest ... ?
