"Bloodthirsty conqueror" Bugged card, or am I dumb?

Bloodthirsty Conqueror, creature, black, 5/5, flying, deathtouch.

"When your opponent loses life: you gain that much life. This effect can trigger up to 4 time(s) per turn."

Does Losing life include combat damage? Spell damage? So far It has not triggered for me while playing any events with the alternative art Card.

Or am I mistaken? Does it have to litterally be life taken by cards with the phrase "your opponent loses # life"?

@MtgHue It has to be an effect that specifies life loss. Any kind if damage doesn't count as life loss and won't trigger it.
