This is the second time I've forgotten about this part of the forum when posting. Anyway, I posted a suggestion for a new mechanic that I called Timed Trap tiles (for lack of a better name). You can read the original post, but here's the gist of it.
- They look like Trap tiles with a timer in the center. Think invisible Countdown tiles, but they could still be disarmed, if overwritten.
- Normally Trap tiles are a little on the weaker side or very conditional, otherwise. The limited nature of a Timed Trap tile would allow for greater, more impactful affects. For example, while a Trap tile would normally deal damage every turn until removed, a Timed Trap tile could deal more damage, but for only a few turns.
- Timed Trap tiles would provide the player with a sense of urgency (i.e. "I have a few turns to find that Trap tile before the world ends <dramatic tone>!").
