If you don't know your in game username it's going to be difficult for CS to restore your account. That was what I was eluding to.

To be honest, if after years of playing you don‘t know your own ingame name, you probably should see a neurologist, not being rude, but I would actually be concerned if I couldn’t remember that after 11 years of playing

I guess but then not knowing that is a you problem not a them one.

Developer releases an update that could potentially cause you to lose all your progress.

I'm not trying to have some online scrap.
I'm not even talking about players like us. People who play daily, do progression, and engage in most if not all activities in the game.

There are probably supreme casual players who may jump in once or twice a month just to play sparingly. I would assume there is a not small group of casual players that may not remember what in game user name is.
