Goose is insane due to all the AoE happening, both from OR and Juggs himself.

Is he in the correct party order to eat the charge tiles?

Also it’s pretty fun to spend half a year grinding possible counter to find out they suck actually lol.

    Yes.

Also, every team I fought in the House of X event was Polaris/m'Thor, so he should work even better -- he eats charged tiles and special tiles. I thought maybe they were using Polaris to stun him, so I put the Hellfire Club support on him (if he would be stunned, turn him invisible for that many turns).

No effect whatsoever. I got slammed. He seems to be completely ineffective as a counter for either character.

Just to clarify, were you having trouble beating Jane Polaris yourself or that you were getting more than usual reds? Also to be fair MMR was all over the place this event.

I had no trouble beating them. I have never had any trouble beating them, with any team.

I was losing to them on defense. I don't think matchmaking has any effect on this -- I was fighting with and being attacked by the same 550 crowd I always see.

Some of us were excited about Black King because it seemed like he'd counter m'Thor (and Polaris!) on defense. He does not, AT ALL. Total failure.

Could've been people excited to try out hitting Shaw. I also think most were excited about Shaw for offense not defense. I'm also in like a 3rd camp of I've never had trouble beating her and most people that hit me are using something else and would figure out how to beat me no matter what I used.

Meant to call this out too -- every team is beatable, you're correct about that. In a rock/paper/scissors metagame, if I'm running rock and you throw scissors, you lose. You change to paper and win. That's a healthy metagame.

In this case, a lot of folks thought Shaw was, finally, our rock -- players would have to use some non-m'Thor team to take him down. He is not. He doesn't even slow her down. I've not yet found a team that does, and I don't believe one exists.

That's weird, cause my alliance chat is all about how tough shaw is if you try and take him on with Polaris/mthor and how you need to stun him asap or you will get crushed. One of my ally mates was saying he was doing 50k match damage against them.

I got stomped. Players were beating me in like 2 minutes, over and over again.

Is it possible that Polaris is the bigger problem? Who are the best counters to Polaris?

I don’t think there is a defensive counter to Polaris really.

What? You telling me 5Miles doesn't slow her down by tying her charged tiles up in sticky web knots? (this is a joke).

Best counter I have for mThor, which gets used in Sim a lot, is BRB, Polaris, and Medusa. Leave mThor unstunned and let her do her thing, until I have so much AP I have to burn it off. Usually finish with near zero dmg. .... usually :D

I guess it's possible that Shaw isn't high enough level -- mine was 570 or so with the boost, and m'Thor is functionally about 100 levels higher than any other character. Maybe if Shaw was 672 she'd have trouble with him?

Doesn't sound like a fair test ... but it will be a long, loooooooooooong time before the mere mortals in this thread have a maxchamped 5* Shaw ... another 300 covers after spending half a year coming up with the first 226 ... yeesh.

Ugh so guess I just ascend my Shaw now and move to a new favorite. Any suggestions? 😆

M'baku, Coulson, Juggernaut, America Chavez, Polaris...I could keep going! It depends on your specific goals and what you like doing.

Depends on your roster and preferences .... there are a lot of effective ascended 4s, beyond what bucket listed. Medusa, XFW, Blob ... some recent releases might be good, like LadyOctopus. Dunno yet.

I've decided that my next longer-term ascension project will be ... Namor! Why Namor? Because ... I like Namor. He should been a 5 star to begin with! And ... having crunched the numbers, Namor has, since his release, been the slowest growing 4* ... by far! Have added ONE cover to him every 14 days played. I have yet to maxchamp the first copy—but he's finally close!—soooo ... at this rate, it will take .... let's see .... 4.3 years to ascend him. So I will give him a gentle push!

Have several of those Ascended already, but keep seeing Blob and MBaku.

My Namor is at 356, he is definitely from the era of “we waited this long for this character and got…this?” in my opinion. He costs too much as a 4* for what he does, I wonder if he is due a rebalance and/or secretly gets good as a 5?

    Namor stats at 475.

Pretty much. On a semi-related note, Ascended Namora was much better than I expected when I tried her during her last boost week. There’s no universe in which she’s worth prioritizing, but she hits harder than I expected.

I think asking any one character at level ~575 to neutralize two of the strongest characters in the game (i.e. a lvl 550 mThor and a lvl 650+ Polaris) is probably going to be tough. Unless that character is so specialized, like an Electro, where it opens you up to different counters.

In this case, the 650+ Polaris is doing so much damage via electromagnetic resonance and particle accelerator (which Black King doesn't have any counter for), that unless you actively get rid of special tiles, it gets overwhelming. In that team, the mThor is just there to destroy a couple special tiles, mThor is not the driving engine of that team.

That doesn't necessarily mean Black King is an ineffective counter against mThor. I would guess Black King is pretty good against mThor plus non-boosted Polaris. I would also guess Black King is good against mThor plus Shang Chi, which a lot of lower-MMR players have and that can cause some annoying defensive losses while climbing. I am in the 550-672 MMR as well, and faced a few ascended boosted Black Kings, and he's legitimately difficult to take down, if you don't have a huge Polaris. I nearly lost several times, which is why I just started skipping. I don't think we should be calling him useless ...

I guess we'll see. I won't be selling mine. I'll give him a shot again next time he's boosted.

Mine is at 13 covers as of today, so it took this long for him to be technically ascendable from new for me. I’ll take him to 274 first though.

    126 covers in 132 days for a 0.95/day rate.

Ok, got the dupe to 271 and early ascended to free up a slot for Nova. So I guess that’s that on this experiment. I will I guess keep pushing 3* switch up to see how long it takes to grind a 3 into a 5* as a supplemental experiment.
